Bucket List #1: Visit all 50 states in US

Dear Friends,

We took several extended trips to attempt to visit all 50 states. One trip was 79 days, 30 states and 15,000 miles. We traveled from Florida to Alaska. Another trip was up the east cost, from Florida to Vermont. We vacationed in Hawaii for 21 days. We also made several trips through the Florida, Arizona, Ohio loop, visiting our children and grandchildren, as well as stopping to see friends along the way. We made a separate trip to DC, with our granddaughters. Oh what a time that was! The bucket list not only included visiting the states, but also doing things along the way. This is been such an adventure. I plan to post according to states to make it easier on myself. It will likely take a while to post, but I promise to work on it.

Alaska

We choose to cruise to Alaska from Seattle. Luckily, two of our sons, Cory and Joe, our (“adopted daughter”) Julie (yes we have two Julies, one is my daughter and the other her best friend, since teenagers) and my son’s friend James, joined us on this adventure. Adventures are always better shared, It was everything we expected it to be. But one thing it was not , cold! We sailed in mid September and it averaged 70 degrees. Too warm for the the cute coat and winter boots that I packed. None the less, it was a great trip. Alaska has such beauty. A time to remember. We cruised on Celebrity of the Seas, a sister company to Royal Caribbean. The cruise itself was great, but a great number of wheel chaired individuals. Certainly, an older crowd. I will speak more of the cruise itself in another letter,

A couple of words of advice, when visiting Alaska. If you decide to do the Yukon train (awesome choice). Make sure to sit on the left hand side, not mountain side) of the train. The best view is from the left side because the tour is given up the mountain. On the trip back, you switch seats so the other passengers get the view. However, they do not narrate on the trip back. I would suggest you take a drink or snack. They offer snacks, but rather costly. It is a rather lengthy, but pleasurable trip. I booked through Celebrity, but it would be less expensive to book independently.
